Winged humanoid encounter in Chicago’s Oz Park – April 2017 eyewitness interview
On a quiet evening in April, a Chicago resident encountered a winged being unlike anything she had ever seen. With glowing red eyes, massive bat-like wings, and a presence that unsettled even her fearless dog, the encounter at Oz Park adds another chilling chapter to Chicago’s ongoing Mothman mystery.
Investigator Manuel Navarette of UFO Clearinghouse interviewed with an eyewitness who reported seeing a Mothman-like being at Oz Park in Chicago on the evening of April 7, 2017.
Investigators Follow-Up:
After reaching out to the witness from the original sighting, I secured time for an in-person discussion to delve into her experience in detail.
The witness, who requested to remain anonymous for professional reasons, agreed to be interviewed under the condition that no identifying information would be disclosed. For this report, I will refer to her as “Tammy.”
Background:
Tammy is an educated professional who has lived in the Oz Park neighborhood for over ten years. After asking her some preliminary questions, I found her to be a credible witness with no apparent intent to fabricate.
Oz Park is situated in the Lincoln Park neighborhood on Chicago's north side, approximately four blocks from the Lincoln Park Zoo and the Lake Michigan shoreline, and about ten blocks south of Wrigley Field. The area is primarily composed of condominiums and apartment buildings. It has a diverse community, mostly consisting of upper-middle-class professionals and students from nearby DePaul University. The park is a well-known landmark and tourist destination, celebrated for its “Wizard of Oz” theme park and statues, and it is popular among residents for various recreational activities.
The Sighting:
Tammy described her encounter, stating that when she approached the area where she saw the creature, it was initially facing away from her. It didn't notice her until it turned its head in her direction. Interestingly, her dog, a Jack Russell Terrier known for its high energy and protective nature, was cowering behind her, whimpering softly. This behavior was unusual, as Jack Russells are typically fearless and not easily intimidated.
Tammy expressed that she never felt she was in immediate danger as long as she stayed where she was. She reported that the creature had glowing eyes that seemed to glow from within and did not blink. Although the beast was primarily black, she noticed its wings had some gray. They did not resemble owl feathers but instead looked leathery and bat-like. She observed that the wings rose at least a foot above the creature's head and were folded behind it.
After staring at her for about 15 seconds, the creature unfurled its wings, which she estimated to span 8-10 feet from tip to tip. The wings seemed to be made of a membrane similar to that of a bat's. With minimal effort, the creature leaped into the air and was gone within seconds, letting out a screech that sounded like an owl, but louder and raspier. She noted that once the creature ascended above the treetops, it quickly became invisible due to the trees and buildings obstructing the view and to light pollution. She believed that unless someone were directly watching, many people could easily have missed the sighting, as they might have been focused on their phones or engaged in conversations, unaware of their surroundings.
When asked why she did not attempt to photograph the creature with her phone, which was in her pocket, Tammy explained that she felt paralyzed in the moment and that the thought of retrieving it never crossed her mind. She speculated that part of her fear may have stemmed from an unknown influence the creature had on her, acting as a defense mechanism.
Since the encounter, Tammy has resumed jogging in the park during early evenings when the weather allows. However, she mentioned that her dog has been very reluctant to accompany her, needing coaxing to finish their runs.
Conclusion:
I believe that Tammy had a credible sighting and genuinely believes what she saw was real. I walked along the park's running trails and visited the location where she reported the sighting. I concur that the creature would have been lost from sight once it rose above the treetops, making it challenging to see. Even with some trees having minimal or no foliage, their proximity creates a canopy that would obstruct tracking anything flying overhead from within the park.
Overall, I regard this as a credible sighting, and the creature's description aligns with reports of the “Mothman” worldwide. Whether this creature is the same one or a different variant remains open to speculation.

NOTE: Tammy’s description of glowing, unblinking eyes, large membranous wings, and a paralyzing influence matches patterns seen in earlier Chicago-area reports and in historic Mothman encounters in Point Pleasant. The emotional tone is one of cautious fear balanced with rational observation, lending credibility. The unusual behavior of her normally fearless dog is significant, echoing similar cases where animals react strongly to winged humanoids. This account strengthens the possibility of an interdimensional or ultraterrestrial origin, though cryptid explanations remain viable given the physical details. Lon
