Watch: Police officer in Malaysia films legendary Pontianak 'vampire ghost'?

A police officer in Malaysia captured footage of what he claims to be a legendary 'vampire ghost' known as a Pontianak. According to a local media report, the peculiar video was posted online by an individual identified as Ikhmal, who works as a cop in the city of Johor Baru. While recently out on patrol with his partner, he said, the pair heard some puzzling sounds emanating from a prohibited area. Upon investigating the situation, the two officers were stunned to see an eerie-looking woman dressed in white and they immediately recognized the figure as a Pontianak, which is a vengeful vampiric spirit that has long been feared in Malaysian folklore.

Despite being surprised by what they had encountered, Ikhmal pulled out his cell phone to capture the unsettling sighting and subsequently shared the footage on social media, where it quickly went viral in the country. While many people responded with their own tales of encountering a Pontianak or something similarly paranormal, more dubious observers asserted that the cop had simply created a fake video to boost his online presence. To that end, the officer conceded that "it's up to the viewers to believe it or vice versa because it's each person's right," but insisted that he had no reason to fabricate the scene as "I myself went through it."

Although Ikhmal says that the incident was the first time he had stumbled upon a Pontianak during a patrol, he indicated that the perceived presence of the entity is a recurring aspect of his job. "The sound of disturbance is common, especially when on duty at night and early in the morning," he explained, "in fact, old people have also told their experiences of encountering this creature." However, he noted that in those instances, "they only saw it, but didn't record it." With that in mind, what do you think Ikhmal filmed while out on patrol? Is it a genuine Pontianak or is the police officer weaving a tall tale? Weigh in with your thoughts at the Coast to Coast AM Facebook page.
