Video: Mysterious big cat sighting causes stir in upstate New York

An upstate New York city is buzzing about a mysterious big cat that was filmed and possibly spotted roaming the streets late at night. The curious scene was reportedly captured by Rochester resident Stephany Baez's doorbell camera early Wednesday morning. Astounded by the sheer size of the feline and its unusually long tail, she promptly posted the video on social media where it spread like wildfire among the city's residents. In short order, the furor surrounding the big cat footage caught the attention of Rochester police who briefly issued a shelter-in-place order for the neighborhood where the animal was filmed. However, that was later rescinded when cops could find no sign of the creature.

Seemingly bolstering the possibility of a big cat roaming around Rochester was resident Curtis Jones, who told a local TV station that he encountered the creature out on the prowl in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. "After I see the people run, I just see something big, just walking just right over there," he recounted at the scene of the sighting. "It said 'rawr,' and I just kept walking," Jones said of the harrowing experience, "I seen it, seeing me, see it, so in my head I'm like, ‘Nah, I got to go man, I'm out.'" Fortunately, the rattled Rochester resident was able to extricate himself from the situation that has understandably left him concerned about the creature that has yet to be identified or even confirmed by authorities.

To that end, New York State officials indicated that they are investigating the case of the curious big cat captured by the doorbell camera and possibly seen by Jones. Theories for its origin include a possible escaped exotic pet or a mountain lion merely passing through the city. One point of origin that has been eliminated is the nearby Seneca Park Zoo which confirmed that all of their animals are present and accounted for. As one might imagine, police have advised Rochester residents to remain vigilant as they look into the matter and to report any sightings of the mysterious big cat to local authorities.
