Video: Haunted hospital in West Virginia turned into tourist attraction
A city in West Virginia hopes to become a tourist destination for fans of the paranormal by way of a purportedly haunted hospital which has been transformed into a full-fledged attraction featuring ghost tours and other spooky events. Built in 1928 and located in the community of Williamson, the Old Hospital on College Hill, has reportedly long boasted a history of alleged spirit encounters and unsettling activity.
Closed as a medical facility in 1988 and then subsequently shuttered altogether in 2014 after it had served as an office space, the building sat dormant since that time except for visits from ghost hunting groups and paranormal television shows hoping to encounter an apparition or two. When the former hospital finally went up for sale recently, a group of investors saw the opportunity to turn that interest into a one-of-a-kind tourist attraction for the city.
Officially opening this past Friday with a clever ceremony that used caution tape in place of the traditional ribbon, the Old Hospital on College Hill will now host both history and ghost tours as well as private events, including weddings and birthday parties for paranormal enthusiasts looking for a unique spin on their special day. Suggesting that the city is more than enthusiastic about the new attraction, Williamson mayor Charles Hatfield mused that "I believe it’ll bring maybe up to 25,000 or more people to this community that would not have been here before."
