The Daedalus Sea Serpent

The HMS Daedalus was said to have encountered a mysterious sea monster on the 6th of August, 1848. It was named the Daedalus Sea Serpent after the ship whose crew had seen the creature. The crew saw the monster as they sailed between the Cape of Good Hope and St. Helena. It was described as being at least 60 feet long and swam with its head about 4 feet out of the water. They were able to watch the creature for a total of 20 minutes as it swam beside them.
