Possible UFO sighting over the Gold Coast on New Year’s Day

Hovering lights in the skies above the Gold Coast have locals wondering if we are in fact all alone in the universe.

Several residents in Ashmore and Bundall noticed the strange and flickering lights high in the sky about 11pm.

Jason, a Bundall local who would not give his last name, videoed the floating light and watched it for close to four hours.

“I went to bed early and not long after my dog woke me up, wanting to go outside,” he said.

“So I got up and took him out and there in the sky was this cluster of lights.

“I was stone cold sober and they looked so strange, at times it would go behind the clouds, but when it came out it looked like it had a large shape, like an eagle.

“My neighbour came out and watched it for a while too, we both had no idea what it was.”

Jason told the Bulletin he would continue to keep an eye out for the strange light.

“It was something strange — you could tell it was not a spotlight, a plane or a drone,” he said.

“It floated and flickered and when I used my phone light or flash on it, it came closer.”

Many took to social media to see if anyone else had seen the lights, with at least four locals agreeing they had.

“Has anyone seen the strange lights hanging from something in the sky over Bundall?”, one reader posted.

While another replied, “I did, very strange, thought it could have been a lantern but slightly to (sic) erratic for that. Very strange”.

It’s not the first time something unusual has been spotted in the skies above the Coast.

UFO Research Queensland President Sheryl Gottschall told the Bulletin over the past four years activity on the Gold Coast had increased to cover about 50 per cent of all reports received in Queensland.

She said many sightings went unreported.
