Massive cryptid canine stands under streetlight in Scranton, PA area neighborhood

In January 2019, a Pennsylvania resident living just seven miles from downtown Scranton witnessed something walking down their driveway that defied every logical explanation. What began as a routine glance outside turned into a chilling face-to-face encounter with a towering, blue-eyed canine humanoid standing under the glow of a streetlight. The details of what happened next raise troubling questions about predatory displacement, territorial behavior, and whether this creature intended to be seen.

"In January 2019, I noticed something lumbering down my driveway. The window I was looking out of faces over and above the drive so that I can see the roof of a car, but not always the bottom of the tires. Regardless, I noticed movement. I looked out and saw what I initially thought was a bear, its nose to the ground and snuffling its head side to side, casually walking down the drive on all fours.

To provide some geographical context, I live in town. The front of my neighborhood faces a major highway, while state game lands surround the back. I’ve seen some wildlife, turkeys and an occasional deer, but it seems like every skunk in the county lives on my street. I don’t see many squirrels, groundhogs, or chipmunks, which is a bit odd. I’m not far from the city of Scranton, about 7 miles from downtown, so I'm not exactly in the sticks.

I watched this “bear” mosey down toward the street, its head lowered. I moved from the living room window to my bedroom window, which offers a full view of the street. Sure enough, here it came.

However, something didn't seem right. I watched this creature stand on two legs and casually walk out into the road. I saw pointed ears and a long snout, and it raised its head to smell the air. This was no bear. I observed it in perfect silhouette under the yellow streetlight.

It was either dark grey or black; the yellow light distorted its actual color. It stood effortlessly, moving with fluidity. It then walked across the road, as casual as could be, and hunkered down in some scrub brush. At that moment, I realized it was looking right into my bedroom.

It had blue eyes. I'm not sure if that was a reflection or if they were glowing. It stared right at me, and I was so shocked that I lost my legs, sinking to the floor beneath my window in a panic. I was home alone with five cats and a dog who slept through the entire experience. I had no idea what to do; my window is a large picture window, and if it had wanted to, it could have easily reached me.

Cautiously, I got on my knees to peek over the sill, but then I lost sight of it. I couldn’t see its eyes or anything else; it seemed to have either moved away from the forest behind my house or decided to rest in that scrub brush.

What I saw under the streetlight was as follows: darkish fur, high pointed ears, and a long muzzle. I never saw its teeth or if it had a tail. It had long, clawed hands that hung limply. If they were fully extended, they would have hung below the knee. It walked on hocked dog legs and appeared heavily muscled, yet tapered at the waist. It was about 7 to 7.5 feet tall, judging from where it stood in relation to the streetlight. Interestingly, it was non-aggressive; even when I felt its gaze, I was terrified but didn’t sense that it was angry about being seen, as some people report.

I didn’t take a picture because it didn't even cross my mind; I was in shock, and sometimes your phone is the last thing on your mind.

Since that night, I’ve heard some odd sounds, like tapping at my window and scratching on the siding. I don’t see many animals around the neighborhood anymore. There used to be about seven stray cats I fed, but they are all gone now. With the change in weather, things have been quiet. I've installed motion lights and bought two game cameras, hoping they will catch anything unusual. I fear this creature may be like Sasquatch, avoiding game cameras. I really don’t want to see it again. For those who wish to encounter such beings, I hope you never do. My encounter was non-aggressive, but I can't imagine what it would be like to deal with it if it were angry. I'm still having trouble sleeping through the night, and every sound scares me after dark. Living alone adds to my anxiety; I own a .357, but I doubt it would do more than ruffle its fur." BC

COMMENTARY

This report documents several known patterns among eastern Pennsylvania cryptids, including the observed transition from quadrupedal to bipedal movement, long forelimbs that hang below the knee, a tapered waist, and a calm yet hyper-aware demeanor. The witness's reaction is consistent with others who describe overwhelming shock when the entity locks eyes with them. Blue eyes are particularly notable and rare, suggesting either reflection, bioluminescence, or an ultraterrestrial adaptation. The disappearance of small animals in the area and the nighttime tapping are also recurring indicators of territorial monitoring behavior. The setting, on the edge of state game land near suburban development, aligns with previous sightings in the Scranton, Hazleton, and Pocono regions. The non-aggressive demeanor does not diminish the significance of the encounter; instead, it supports the theory that these beings may be observers rather than predators, possibly interdimensional or ultraterrestrial entities using the wooded corridors around Pennsylvania communities.
