Lubbock woman sharing stories about miracles, after receiving one of her own
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - A miracle is defined as an extraordinary event that cannot be explained.
A Lubbock woman says she understands now that she didn’t get the miracle she prayed for, because that paved the way for many other miracles to come.
Rick and Holly Betenbough built an empire together, with his father, starting with that first affordable home in Lubbock, costing $37,000 in 1992. Since then, they have built more than 20,000 homes.
Retired from the business, she is still known as “Holly Hugs” for obvious reasons, and she invited me to the Betenbough studio to talk about a new venture called Miracle.
But first, you need to know why Holly is working on this project without Rick.
“He was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The normal diagnosis and life expectancy for that is four to six months, and my husband lived for two years and two months, and that was a miracle,” Holly said.
Holly says that was the first miracle. Then, after his death, Holly was looking for a way to invest what he had left her and learned of a docu-series about Miracle that was almost ready to air. It just needed funding.
“And they told me all about Miracle, all about the episodes, all about these incredible stories that had come forward, and that they were able to capture on film,” Holly said. “And right then, I felt like I heard the Lord say, you didn’t get the miracle with your husband of healing that you prayed for and that you believed for. But how would you like to help me be known in the earth as the miracle worker that i am?”
Holly became executive producer of Miracle, which is airing now on the Angel Network: Real life stories that are medically documented but defy logic or science.
Each episode looks at divine intervention, presenting the facts with amazing reenactments, but ultimately letting the viewer decide.
“My prayer is that these programs will reach people who need hope and who need encouragement,” Holly said.
People like Holly, who found another miracle in her life.
“My husband died in December of ’23, and in February, a friend that I’ve had for a long time gave me this necklace that I’ve worn every day since, and it says Hope. And nine months later, I meet Richard Hope,” Holly said.
Dr. Hope, a dermatologist, suffered a tragedy of his own when Karla, his wife of 39 years, did not survive a kidney transplant.
Richard and Holly knew of each other, but didn’t know each other, until a grief support group brought them to the same place.
“And I didn’t even put it together, Karin, until I was standing talking with Richard and he said, I like your necklace. And now we’re married. And so, my name is Holly Hope.”
Holly says she doesn’t see things as coincidence anymore, but believes there are miracles all around us, even if it’s not what you pray for.
“I feel like when you have a relationship with the Lord and you walk with him, you understand that his ways are not our ways,” Holly said. “And my faith has grown from that program.”
The first season of Miracle is streaming on the Angel Network. You can purchase a membership through Angel, just like you would Netflix or any other program, or you can go online and stream it for free.
