Jo Wood is on a mission to clean up the planet after being inspired by a bizarre alien encounter.

And no, Rolling Stone Ronnie’s ex-wife hasn’t been on a trip back to her drug-taking days on the road with the band.

She reveals she was among hundreds of people who spotted what looked like a UFO 20 years ago when she was on a family holiday with the rocker and their two children.

Jo reveals : “I love aliens. I’ve seen a UFO in Brazil. I was on holiday with Ronnie and one night he goes: ‘Jo, there’s some weird lights over the sea’. I walked out and thought, ‘What is he on about?’

“Then the lights lifted up off the sea and shot into the sky. “I went ‘oh s***’.

"I was looking down and these green orbs came right up and went right by our windows. I’ve been obsessed with aliens ever since.

"We can’t be the only beings in this universe," she added, admitting it makes her all the more ashamed of the way we treat our planet.

“In the next day’s newspaper it said ‘UFO invades Brazil’. Hundreds of people had seen the same thing so I knew I wasn’t mad. Another time we were flying over Brazil," she continued.

Jo recently starred in Channel 4 show Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls and was shocked by the washed up plastic on the remote Pacific island’s shores.

“We trudged through the jungle and there it all was on the beach, bottles, Lego, nets, flip-flops, Walt Disney toys. It’s horrible. I don’t know how we have got like this.

“But we are at an exciting point now. It feels like there is revolution and everyone is aware about plastic, food and what we put in our systems.”

And now that close encounter is helping fuel her passion to see our own planet turn the tide against the threat from plastic.

Jo, 63, has recorded a podcast ‘Jo’s Alien Nation’ about her favourite subject and the need to clean up our oceans.

And she has inspired her artist brother Paul Karslake to recreate a string of classic paintings by the likes of Gaudi, Monet and Picasso – but with rubbish scattered within them.

Meanwhile, she says she’s so glad her ex Ronnie – now re-married with two children to theatre producer Sally Humphreys – managed to give up cigarettes.

The guitarist had lung cancer, but was given the all-clear in August last year. “He has done well,” says Jo.

“And he has done something I never thought he would, and that is stop smoking. I’m very proud of him.”

Ex-wild child Jo reckons her own good health now is down to an organic diet. She says: “I just had a medical and got 10 out of 10.

"I had zero heart calcium. It just goes to show you what it can do. Even backstage on tour with the Stones, I would always insist on one organic dish.

Charlie Watts is very organic. Mick Jagger is very conscious about what he eats.

“But he wasn’t organic until I was. Keith Richards once said to me: ‘The trouble with you is you’re addicted to organic food.’ I thought coming from you, that’s great.”
