Haunted island of Java

When it comes to places like Indonesia, I consult my nephew Michaelis Jacoby who lived in Bali for many years.  Michaelis has explored places like the Island of Java while living in Bali.  Michaelis says that the Island of Java is extremely haunted and here are some of the spine-tingling stories that come out of Java.

FOREST DEMONS OF BANYUWANGI FOREST

Banyuwangi Forest: Located in East Java, this forest is considered one of Indonesia’s most haunted places. Locals believe it’s inhabited by spirits, demons, and ghosts. Modern-day hermits, known as “lelono,” live here, seeking solitude and a spiritual connection. In the forest are small "Forest Demons".  If you come across a Forest Demon, it will make you fall asleep.  The Forest Demon will take any valuable jewelry that you may have on your person. Forest Demons attire is leaves and hats made of seashells. Some Forest Demons will mimic the voice of a woman in distress.  When the male victim hears the voice, he will look for where the voice is coming from and get lost in the forest.

THE DARMO GENIE

The Darmo Haunted House is one of the most haunted places on the Island of Java. The story goes that an evil genie killed a family at this house. Legend has it that the patriarch of the family made a pact with the Darmo Genie. The patriarch was seeking wealth.  The patriarch did not fulfill his contract with the Darmo Genie. The contract was for the patriarch to select one of his children and give the genie that child.  Because the pack was not fulfilled, The Darmo Genie sought revenge and killed the husband and wife, and their 3 children. Then there is another story of what happened to that family. Some locals believe that the Darmo Genie lured them into the forest and the family vanished into another dimension. At the home, people hear girls crying, they see full body apparitions.  The house has been abandoned for 10 years.

LAWANG SEWU WINDOW SPIRITS & THE AKHIRNYA ANDA TAU SPRITE

Lawang Sewu building was constructed in 1904 by the Dutch. It was used as a railroad building, it's now a museum.  This building is very unusual because of the multitude of doors and windows that this building has.  A sprite that hangs around Lawang Sewu is called The Akhirnya Anda Tau Sprite. Akhirnya Anda Tau means (Finally You Know).  The malevolent sprite is sometimes seen flying about. If this sprite lands on your shoulder, it will bring you misfortune. It is said that the sprite landed on a woman's shoulder and in one week, she lost all of her hair.  Another item about Lawang Sewu is that "window spirits" are seen looking out the many windows of this building.

SUMI'S POCONG HOUSE PORCH GHOSTS & THE SUFFOCATOR

At the Sumi's Pocong House, you will notice that the atmosphere inside this house is very thick and stuffy.  People will sometimes find themselves coughing uncontrollably. The locals say one entity that is inside this house is "The Suffocator".  The Suffocator will try to take your breath away. When dusk starts, some locals say that they will see "Porch Ghosts".  These ghosts just sit or stand on the porch and watch people.

DUTCH CAVE, JAPANESE CAVE & THE KUTUK JAVAN TIGER DEMON

Two haunted caves are the Dutch Cave and the Japanese Cave.  There were many deaths at both cave locations. Locals and tourists have heard disembodied whispering.  They will hear moaning and sometimes screaming.  The Dutch Cave is located at Dago Pakar Park. The Dutch Cave was once a place that Dutch soldiers would keep their weapons. When natives were near the Dutch Cave they were shot and killed. Some natives were even tortured.  The Japanese Cave was also a place of death. Some natives were beheaded at the Japanese Cave by Japanese soldiers. At the Dutch Cave some locals have seen a ghostly tiger, they call this tiger the Kutuk Javan Tiger Demon.  Some locals that encountered the phantom tiger, have been mauled by this animal ghost.

MALUKU PARK & THE WALKING STATUE

Here is a unique story. At this park is a statue of a priest named Verbraak. Verbraak died in a plane crash. The priest was buried in the Netherlands. Locals swear up and down that Verbraak's statue will come alive at night-time and has been seen moving into different positions.  Eyes will move and on some rare occasions the statue will take a small walk and later go back to its resting area.
