A man claims he filmed a mermaid encounter at Great Barrier Reef
In folklore, a mermaid is an aquatic creature with the head and upper body of a human and the tail resembling a fish. These ‘mythical’ creatures are mentioned in countless ancient cultures around the globe, including the Near East, Europe, Africa and Asia.
A Bizarre video has taken the internet by storm—again. A video uploaded in 2010 has resurfaced on the internet pushing believers and skeptics into a heated debate around a video allegedly filmed at the Great Barrier Reef.
The footage shows a mysterious creature—a mermaid—swimming in the distance.
Some hail it as the best mermaid footage ever taken, while others say it’s probably just someone swimming in a cheap costume, doing their best to produce a high-quality video that can go viral on the web.
So what is it? Is it an actual mermaid?
The video, uploaded to YouTube by Marginal Media has stacked more than 2,700,000 views. (There’s another one, also posted below, which has more than 4 million views.)
The narrator of the video explains how he ‘went to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia to test an underwater cage that he recently bought.’
Two films were recorded, explains the narrator. The video footage on the left was his very first try. The narrator explains that as he was testing out his camera, and how to operate it, he felt something ‘behind’ him.
He further states that he only spotted the ‘mermaid’ after he watched the footage on the computer.
The man who filmed the video claims its real. Not Edited. Not faked.
The Mermaid Mystery
Some users say it’s the ultimate evidence mermaids are real:
“I believe this. Mermaid doesn’t use arms to swim, and the bending of the tail is smooth and fluid. Plus, how fast it’s moving. However, I think it’s probably best humans don’t find out about them. They’ll only be hunted and exploited x.”
Others have maintained a more skeptical stance saying that the video doesn’t prove anything.
However, that doesn’t keep people from seeing this video as the ultimate evidence that mermaids are real.
And who can blame them, right? After all, many people still believe Santa and the Tooth fairy are real. ?
But on a more serious note, think about this:
Millions of people around the globe firmly believe God created the world in seven days. Furthermore, millions more are convinced how the first humans on Earth where Adam and Eve. Creationists are convinced that God created the world roughly 6,000 years ago and that the flood of Noah was about 4400 years ago.
However, there is ample evidence that suggests that modern humans have walked on Earth for more than 300,000 years.
Evidence of early humans dates back even further.
So, despite having solid scientific evidence to prove humans have been around much longer, millions are convinced that God created mankind some 6,000 years Ago.
My point here isn’t to say that mermaids are real. And I’m not discussing religion and creation.
I just want to show how people believe in things despite ample evidence that suggests the contrary.
People will also believe in things that they’ve never seen.
I guess that just the human nature.
For me, personally, the footage is striking.
Why?
Because I am someone who will not say it’s not real just because many others believe it is not.
I am not saying that I do believe in mermaids, nor am I saying that I think the footage is the ultimate evidence of anything.
I am saying that I find the footage of peculiar interest.
