7-foot-tall winged cryptid appears in rainy driveway near Mukwonago, Wisconsin

In mid-April 2017, a Wisconsin resident experienced a brief but deeply unsettling encounter while sitting in a parked vehicle late at night. What began as a routine phone call ended with a close-range sighting of a towering winged entity that vanished almost instantly. Reports like this continue to add weight to a growing body of unexplained winged humanoid encounters across the Midwest.

We received this intriguing account and quickly followed up with a telephone interview:

"In mid-April of 2017, I was sitting in my car, parked facing north in the driveway at my home, located between Eagle-Palmyra and Mukwonago, Wisconsin. I had been having an extended phone conversation with an old friend on the way home and hadn’t gone inside the house yet. I remember looking at the radio clock, which read approximately 10:45 PM. It had been a dreary, overcast day, with non-stop misty rain, one of those days when it drizzled continuously without turning into a heavy downpour.

While chatting about the day’s events, I looked briefly at my minivan's dashboard and noticed “someone” standing in the rain about five to ten feet in front of my vehicle. The figure was exceedingly tall and dark, perfectly still, with raindrops cascading off its body. Although it was dark outside, a post lamp at the end of the driveway, near the road, about 40 to 50 feet away, provided a slight backlight for the silhouette. I had been in mid-conversation, and my brain didn’t immediately register what I had seen. After about a second and a half, I did a double-take, thinking, “Wait a minute… what the Hell was THAT?”

Forcing myself to look back at the front of the vehicle, I said to my friend on the phone, “You’re not going to believe this.” I quickly turned on my headlights and focused on this 'thing,' giving my friend a concise yet detailed description while I was literally shaking and scared out of my wits. I was staring at a creature that resembled a seven-foot bat or reptile. Its head was at the level of my minivan's roof, or slightly higher, and it was standing perfectly still, staring right at me. Its eyes were large, taking up a significant portion of its head. Though dark, they glinted with a reflection that confirmed they were definitely eyes. It was haunting, to say the least. I was genuinely creeped out just recalling that event!

I also noticed that, besides being exceptionally tall, the creature had a reasonably large frame and an unusually dark coloration that seemed slightly reflective—almost like skin or scales rather than feathers or fur. It was at least as wide as a huge man but did not appear stocky. As I stared at it uncomfortably, I realized it had enormous wings wrapped around its body, similar to how a bat wraps its wings around itself while upside-down. However, this creature was standing upright, looking right at me, or perhaps even “through me”, and it felt ominous.

My initial reaction was to tell my friend on the phone that I was looking at a giant “bat-dragon-looking thing.” He asked if I had been drinking or something, and I assured him that this creature was really standing there, and I was looking right at it. The lower part of its face (or mouth) was entirely covered by its fleshy-looking wings wrapped around its body. I could tell it was physically powerful, as the broad shoulder and wing area appeared to display some muscle. The way it stood suggested that it had a humanoid body beneath the wrapped wings. I couldn’t see its feet since it stood too close to the vehicle, nor could I see anything below what I would imagine to be knee-level on the creature. That’s how close it was, and I was terrified.

After I described what I was seeing to my friend, I noticed the creature seemed to vanish very quickly. Although I didn’t see it unwrap its wings or walk, there was a brief blur in the headlights, and then it was gone. My entire observation lasted only about twelve seconds, but considering the way that thing was leering at me, even that felt too long!

In a near-panic, I told my friend, who was still on the line, that I was not going to sit there any longer and was heading inside for the night. The rest of that evening remained uncomfortable but uneventful.

I mentioned the experience to one other friend, a work associate with a long-standing interest in unusual subjects, but largely kept it to myself for fear of ridicule. The experience, albeit brief, was unsettling." MG

COMMENTARY & NOTES

This encounter displays several consistent patterns found in Upper Midwestern winged humanoid reports, including close-proximity sightings, reflective oversized eyes, and wings wrapped tightly around a humanoid frame. The emotional tone shows immediate fear, disbelief, and lingering unease, which is common in cases involving direct eye contact and perceived awareness by the entity. Southeastern Wisconsin has produced multiple winged entities and humanoid sightings over the past two decades, placing this report within an active regional corridor. The sudden disappearance without visible wing movement suggests a possibility beyond conventional biological flight, lending weight to interdimensional or ultraterrestrial hypotheses rather than an unknown animal alone.
