Victor Zammit commentary: The gift of gratitude
Psychologists and practitioners of mindfulness tell us that cultivating the habit of gratitude is one of the fastest ways of improving our mood, our relationships, our health, and our ability to cope with stress and adversity. It strengthens family and social bonds, fosters a positive work environment, improves job satisfaction, increases employee engagement, and reduces stress. Employees who receive gratitude from their supervisors are more likely to feel valued and satisfied in their roles.
But the benefits don't stop there. Gratitude is a gift that gives twice - it blesses the giver and the receiver. A thankful heart is one of the few things we can take with us when we transition.
We are told by out-of-body explorers, spiritual teachers, and by people reporting from the afterlife through mediums that the conditions we find ourselves in when we die are exponentially better for those who make an effort to cultivate an attitude of generosity and positivity - and gratitude is fundamental to that.
