New moon in Scorpio: embracing change and transformation
We are having a New Moon in Scorpio on November 15th throughout most of the world and on the night of the 14th in Central to Western North America. This is initiating a 29.5 day lunar cycle and new wave of energy for the coming month; however, the astrological configurations mentioned in this article will be more prominent over the following two weeks.
We are also approaching eclipse season with the upcoming Full Moon of this cycle being a Lunar Eclipse in Gemini on November 30th, followed by a Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius on December 14th/15th. Eclipses can reflect beginnings, endings, and evolutionary developments pertaining to the sign it is in and in specific areas of our lives based on our individual astrological blueprints.
The effects of eclipses don’t always fully play out when they are occurring although you can experience things connected to the eclipses strongly in the weeks surrounding them. However, their energies and themes will also manifest sometime in the 6 months following and can begin in the 6 weeks prior. I will be writing separate articles on these eclipse, you can join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive them.
New Moon In Scorpio
Scorpio season began on October 22nd/23rd, just over three weeks prior to this Lunation, and will end on November 21st/22nd when Sagittarius season begins. However, his New Moon will still carry some of its Scorpio themes into the first week of Sagittarius season prior to the Full Moon.
Scorpio is about depth, transformation, power, regeneration, mastery, extremes, sex, and rebirth. It is complex, passionate, intuitive, calculated, mysterious, penetrating, investigative, controlling, driven, observant, intense, and primal. Psychotherapy, deep healing, alchemy, or anything that is esoteric can fall under the domain of this sign as it can be about exploring the hidden aspects of life.
Scorpio is also associated with fears, shadows, death, secrets, envy, manipulation, obsessiveness, vengeance, and savagery. Things like shared resources, shared values, investments, inheritance, as well as taxes, debt, and credit all fall under the domain of this sign.
New Moon Sextile Pluto, Jupiter, and Saturn In Capricorn
This New Moon is in a tight sextile to Pluto, Jupiter and Saturn in Capricorn. Jupiter and Pluto have been in a strong conjunction over the last week and into the next one. Pluto is associated with Scorpio and this conjunction along with its aspect to the New Moon can amplify the themes of that sign.
This energy can bring powerful changes, transformations, and potentially some sort of death and rebirth experiences for some people. It can be empowering, revealing, and help us to overcome issues or shadows that have hindered us. This can reflect a shift in our beliefs, opinions, and tendencies of excessiveness. Hidden or dark matters may surface or can affect our perspectives. This can be a time of having deeper understandings and realizations. In some cases this can play out as big gains around finances or other resources.
This New Moon is also moving towards a sextile with Saturn in which will also be the Moon’s final aspect before changing signs. This energy is stabilizing, steady, and realistic. This can help bring some practicality amidst the complexity of Scorpio. This is highly supportive for applying ourselves in a disciplined and responsible manner which may potentially be connected to the aftermath of Jupiter-Pluto related experiences mentioned above.
Considering that these planets are in Capricorn, for many people the themes mentioned in this section could be connected to ambitions, business, social status, authority figures, or pursuit of mastery. However, ultimately it depends on how this is all configured to our personal and unique astrology charts based on the time we were born.
Mars is Now Stationary Direct
Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio and has ended its retrograde just over 28 hours before this New Moon. It began its retrograde in the 2nd week of September and will be in its post retrograde shadow until early January. In the weeks and days before and after this New Moon, we can experience things that can affect how we should be applying and asserting ourselves in specific areas of our lives. This process will continue over the coming weeks as Mars gradually moves forward at a faster speed which can also increase our momentum in a revised direction or method of applying ourselves.
With Mars in or almost stationary position during the second and third week of November, its themes and expressions can come up strongly. It can play out as anger, frustration, competitiveness, as well as strong masculine or sexual energy. We may also experience a shift connected to those things. I wrote a full article on it a few months ago, you can read it here.
Mercury Opposite Uranus During Post Retrograde Shadow
Mercury ended its previous retrograde on November 3rd/4th and is still in its post retrograde shadow until November 19th/20th. From November 6th/7th and onward until the 19th, we start to have more clarity around some of the issues that have come up since mid-October. We can begin to move forward in a new way based on certain things that have transpired.
Mercury is in an opposition to Uranus from November 16th-17th. This is a period in which we may have to be more flexible due to the potentials of changes, interruptions, and disruptions. Surprises, inconsistencies, accidents, lack of focus, rebelliousness, separation, or communication issues can also play out. This energy can be good for new ideas, stimulating conversations, and insights.
Venus Aligned With Spica While Square Pluto, Jupiter, and Saturn
Venus is aligned with the star Spica during this New Moon and in the three days following, however, it also in some hard aspects. Spica is a fortunate star which can bring blessings around Venus issues of love, romance, personal relationships, friends, money, values, pleasures, or things that are aesthetically oriented.
Venus is also in square with the Jupiter-Pluto conjunction on the day of and following the New Moon on November 15th-16th, and less strongly in the day prior to that. At best this can trigger passion, positive change, transformation, growth, strong feelings, empowerment, depth, change in perspective, and perhaps themes of purging around Venus related issues. However, this can also reflect intensity, power struggles, jealousy, manipulation, control, obsessions, hidden agendas, or issues pertaining to shadows in these areas. Jupiter can add excessive energy to these potential manifestations.
Venus then moves towards a square with Saturn which is strong from November 18th-19th. This can play out as obstacles, restrictions, limitations, caution, struggles, and a need to be realistic around Venus areas of life. We may face issues and distance around our relations and it can be harder to connect with others. This can be a good time to reflect on what you need to be doing differently or taking a serious approach to Venus issues.
