Watch: Massive fireball appears over soccer stadium in Rome

Spectators at a soccer match in Rome were understandably taken aback when a massive fireball streaked across the sky at the conclusion of the game. According to a local media report, the wondrous event occurred on Saturday evening over the city's Olympic Stadium as more than 70,000 fans in attendance were celebrating their team's victory over the football club Atalanta. Their revelry turned to confusion, however, when an enormous fiery object suddenly appeared in the sky over their heads.

One observer indicated that she initially thought "it was a bit of an extreme celebration" on the part of the home team or perhaps some overzealous fans outside the stadium, while others were undoubtedly worried that the fireball might be something sinister in light of the current world affairs. Fortunately, it was quickly determined that the odd object was merely a meteorite that had entered the Earth's atmosphere and just so happened to have impeccable timing, since it showed up right as the big match had come to an end.
