US setting up a new military base

... in Syria’s Deir Ezzor

The US Army is setting up a new military base in a desert region in Syria’s Deir Ezzor two weeks after the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) claimed to have started their anti-ISIS operation in Eastern Syria, a well-informed source reported on Monday.

The sources claimed that the US military is building a new base equipped with advanced military tools and systems in Badiyeh (desert) al-Sha’afa in Deir Ezzor province, adding that the construction of the base has been justified as a move in support of the SDF against ISIS in Eastern Deir Ezzor, while SDF has been engaged in several confrontations against the Syrian army.

The sources further said that the US forces and the Washington-backed militias claim to be preparing for a possible operation against ISIS in the region, while they are spreading to the territories held by the Syrian army.

The SDF claimed yesterday that they managed to 21 km against ISIS in border region with Iraq in an operation codenamed Asefah al-Jazeera, adding that the SDF militias have reached regions near the village of al-Baqouz in Eastern Deir Ezzor.

In a similar development last month, the US forces built a new and advanced military base in al-Omar oilfield in Southeastern Deir Ezzor, adding that they also transferred a large volume of arms and equipment, including missiles, military vehicles and bridge equipment to the regions of their deployment in Koniko oilfield, al-Omar oilfield and al-Jafreh.

Meantime, SDF sent a reinforcement to the regions near the Syrian army positions in the villages of Jiya, Salehiyeh and al-Tabiyeh.
