Paranormal YouTuber in India arrested for video claiming new airport is haunted

A paranormal YouTuber in India has been arrested for posting a video in which, authorities say, he made fantastically false claims about a newly opened airport being haunted. According to a local media report, Akshay Vashisht produces videos showcasing "real horror stories and case studies" on his popular channel that boasts nearly 600,000 subscribers. In a recent presentation from the YouTuber, he discussed the Manohar International Airport, which opened in 2023, and shared some staggering assertions that have now landed him in trouble with the law.

In the video, Vashisht unleashed a series of astonishing claims concerning the site, including that several workers perished during its construction and that the land where the facility sits was once a cremation ground. He also shared the tale of a peepal tree, seen as sacred in Indian culture, that inexplicably grew on the grounds of the airport seemingly as a sign of divine protection. By far the most jaw-dropping story told by Vashisht in the video is that the construction of the site was completed thanks to a secret human sacrifice ritual involving an unfortunate, unnamed couple.

The airport's alleged dark history, the YouTuber told his audience, has led to the presence of a ghostly woman who pursues planes as they take off, terrifying pilots who now refuse to fly there at night. Shortly after it was posted online, Vashisht's video caught the attention of authorities who strongly disputed the veracity of the stories in his presentation. Following a brief investigation, the online personality was arrested on Wednesday for what is said to be a violation of an Indian law against publishing "malicious and superstitious allegations capable of creating public fear."
