Transdermal Magnesium Therapy: A New Modality for the Maintenance of Health by Dr. Mark Sircus explains why magnesium is so important for everyone and why applying magnesium through the skin (transdermally) is the most effective way to use it.

Amazon says:

This second edition of Transdermal Magnesium Therapy offers a full medical review of how magnesium affects cancer, the heart, diabetes, the emotions, inflammation, surgery, autism, transdermal medicine, and so much more.

Magnesium is nothing short of a miracle; it has the potential to save you from considerable suffering and pain. The information presented here could even save your life. Magnesium is the lamp of life and one of the most important keys to overall health. When applied in the correct way, magnesium offers us a return to strength and vigor. When used in the emergency room, magnesium can save the day for both heart and stroke patients. What you will be introduced to is magnesium oil, a natural concentrated form of magnesium chloride that can be applied directly to the skin for intense effect.

When we are deficient in magnesium, over three hundred enzymes in our body are unable to function properly. Magnesium deficiency has been scientifically identified as a critical factor in the onset of a wide variety of diseases. For various reasons and to varying degree, two-thirds or more of the population is magnesium deficient.

Symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency

In his article Magnesium Deficiency Symptoms and Diagnosis, Dr. Sircus shows how common and critical magnesium deficiency is now for Americans. He points out that studies show that the majority of Americans are deficient in magnesium. Yet, magnesium is a critical co-factor in more than 300 enzymatic reactions in the body.

Dr. Norman Shealy says:

Every known illness is associated with a magnesium deficiency….magnesium is the most critical mineral required for electrical stability of every cell in the body. A magnesium deficiency may be responsible for more diseases than any other nutrient.

Dr. Sircus says that because magnesium deficiency is largely overlooked, millions of Americans suffer needlessly or are having their symptoms treated with expensive drugs when they could be cured with magnesium supplementation. He points out that magnesium is by far the most important mineral in the body and few people are aware of the enormous role magnesium plays.

After oxygen, water, and basic food, magnesium may be the most important element needed by our bodies, vitally important yet hardly known. It is more important than calcium, potassium, or sodium and regulates all three of them. Millions suffer daily from magnesium deficiency without knowing it.

Video: Magnesium: The most powerful relaxation mineral available

In the video Magnesium: The most powerful relaxation mineral available, Dr. Mark Hyman warns that if you are deficient in magnesium, you are twice as likely to die! Yet, half of Americans are deficient in this nutrient – and don’t know it! Dr. Hyman recommends supplementing with oral magnesium, but Dr. Sircus shows in his book and videos further below that transdermal magnesium is more effective.

Vital Role of Magnesium

Magnesium is needed by every cell in the body including brain cells and is one of the most important minerals when considering supplementation because of its vital role in hundreds of enzyme systems and functions related to reactions in cell metabolism, as well as being essential for the synthesis of proteins, and for the utilization of fats and carbohydrates. Magnesium is needed not only for the production of specific detoxification enzymes but is also important for energy production related to cell detoxification. A magnesium deficiency can affect virtually every system of the body.

Dr. Sircus says that the first symptoms of magnesium deficiency can be subtle. Since most magnesium is stored in the tissues, leg cramps, foot pain, or muscle ‘twitches’ can be the first sign. Other early signs of deficiency include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and weakness. As magnesium deficiency worsens, numbness, tingling, seizures, personality changes, abnormal heart rhythms, and coronary spasms can occur.

Video: Signs and Symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency

In the video Signs and Symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency, Dr. Peter Osborne, a doctor of chiropractic and a Board Certified doctor of clinical nutrition, describes the three main areas of the American life style that contribute to magnesium deficiencies. These are chronic low-grade stress, diuretics like caffeine, alcohol, and blood-pressure medications, and a diet high in refined carbohydrates (breads, pastas, cereals, cakes, crackers, cookies, and other baked goods)

Some of the consequences of magnesium deficiency are depression, high blood pressure, increased blood thickness which can cause strokes and heart attacks, bone loss, muscles spasms, and elevated cholesterol. Dr. Osborne explains that dietary magnesium deficiency is often compounded by drugs to treat the symptoms of magnesium deficiency but exacerbate it — creating a vicious cycle. The answer is simply to treat the dietary magnesium deficiency instead.

Dr. Osborne recommends a cell test, but Dr. Sircus shows in the video below why no test is needed.

Video: No Magnesium Test Needed

In the video Magnesium Deficiency – No Test Required, Dr. Sircus explains why no test is needed.

Dr. Sircus cites the article by Dr. Sidney Baker who provides a full outline of magnesium deficiency.

Magnesium deficiency can affect virtually every organ system of the body. With regard to skeletal muscle, one may experience twitches, cramps, muscle tension, muscle soreness, including back aches, neck pain, tension headaches and jaw joint (or TMJ) dysfunction. Also, one may experience chest tightness or a peculiar sensation that he can’t take a deep breath. Sometimes a person may sigh a lot.

Symptoms involving impaired contraction of smooth muscles include constipation; urinary spasms; menstrual cramps; difficulty swallowing or a lump in the throat-especially provoked by eating sugar; photophobia, especially difficulty adjusting to oncoming bright headlights in the absence of eye disease; and loud noise sensitivity from stapedius muscle tension in the ear.

The central nervous system is markedly affected by magnesium deficiency. Symptoms include insomnia, anxiety, hyperactivity and restlessness with constant movement, panic attacks, agoraphobia, and premenstrual irritability. Magnesium deficiency symptoms involving the peripheral nervous system include numbness, tingling, and other abnormal sensations, such as zips, zaps and vibratory sensations.

Symptoms or signs of the cardiovascular system include palpitations, heart arrhythmias, and angina due to spasms of the coronary arteries, high blood pressure and mitral valve prolapse. Be aware that not all of the symptoms need to be present to presume magnesium deficiency; but, many of them often occur together. For example, people with mitral valve prolapse frequently have palpitations, anxiety, panic attacks and premenstrual symptoms. People with magnesium deficiency often seem to be ‘uptight.’ Other general symptoms include a salt craving, both carbohydrate craving and carbohydrate intolerance, especially of chocolate, and breast tenderness.

Video: 9 Signs of Magnesium Deficiency & Quick Fixes — Dr. Mandell

In the video 9 Signs of Magnesium Deficiency & Quick Fixes, Dr. Alan Mandell discusses migraines, leg cramps, anxiety, and other issues that may result from magnesium deficiency. He recommends foods high in magnesium. He says magnesium is the most important major mineral needed by your body.  In order to function correctly, your body needs many nutrients.  However, if it is deficient in magnesium, there are over 350 biochemical reactions that either will not occur at all or will occur very inefficiently.

Video: Magnesium Deficiency: 8 Warning Signs

In the video Magnesium Deficiency: 8 Warning Signs, Dr. Josh Axe points out that up to 80% of Americans may be magnesium deficient today. He discusses 8 signs of deficiency. He recommends magnesium-rich foods and supplements. Dr. Axe highly recommends transdermal magnesium oil.

Video: Dr. Mark Sircus, on Magnesium Supplements

Dr. Sircus explains why transdermal magnesium is more effective than oral magnesium. He recommends only the magnesium from Ancient Minerals for its purity and shows the source of the Ancient Minerals magnesium products.

The Ancient Minerals site quotes Dr. Sircus as saying: “When I put my endorsement on the Ancient Minerals product line, it is with intimate knowledge that this magnesium source is the purest most potent medicinal in the world. I am still amazed how inexpensively they have brought Ancient Minerals bath flakes to the market. LL Magnetic Clay has made available and affordable to many an exceptionally pure form of magnesium chloride.”

The Ancient Minerals bath flakes, gel, oil, and lotions are also available on Amazon. The gel leaves a crust and the oil can sting. The bath flakes are good for a foot bath, but can be expensive for daily baths. The lotion is very soothing. However, the 8oz bottle shown on the right in the photo at the top of the article is no longer available. Only the 5oz lotion shown below is sold now.

I apply the Ancient Minerals magnesium lotion to my calves every morning and evening after I bathe. I also keep the lotion by my bedside to apply to my calves if I wake up with a crippling “charley horse”! In addition, I apply the lotion all across my chin because it significantly reduces the plaque buildup on my teeth and reduces pain and bleeding during dental cleaning!

Benefits of Transdermal Magnesium

Evidence Is Mounting that Fukushima Is a Progressive Extinction Level Event and Deconstructing the Worldwide Media Blackout on the Ongoing Fukushima Nuclear Disaster: California Wine is Just the Tip of This Radioactive Iceberg show the high levels of radiation to which all Americans are exposed because of Fukushima. After all, California is our breadbasket!

The article American Cancer Society Chief Officer Calls Cell Phone Radiation Study a “Game Changer” points out the dangers of radiation from cell phones, towers, and smart meters. Protection against radiation is even more important as 5G technology is rolled out and Wi-Fi is increasingly widespread.

Dr. Sircus’ article Magnesium Offers Strong Radiation Protection provides an easy solution. Magnesium also helps detox mercury. Many people have high levels of mercury from dental fillings, eating fish, living near coal-fired industries, etc. Mercury toxicity can fuel many chronic illnesses.

The Ancient Minerals site lists some of the benefits of transdermal magnesium products which deliver magnesium through the skin for rapid absorption into the cells. Magnesium is a cellular protectant, facilitates detoxification, relieves aches, pains and spasms, elevates mood, relieves stress, encourages healthy skin, helps maintain muscle function, boosts energy levels, supports a healthy immune system, balances the hormonal system, calms overactive nerves, improves quality of sleep, and much more.

The documentary Fluoride: Poison on Tap explains that the fluoride added to the water supply in most American cities and in many types of toothpaste since the early 20th century is a toxin. As an irritant to the thyroid, fluoride is fueling the hypothyroid epidemic. Fluoride can also cause cancer and arthritis – leading to many knee and hip replacements. Fluoride damages the brain and causes memory problems. Fluoride damages the immune system, contributing to autoimmune diseases. Many pesticides sprayed on non-organic foods contain fluoride.

The documentary explains that the antidote to fluoride is Magnesium, Iodine, Calcium, Vitamin C, and Selenium.  Dr. Edward Group created Survival Shield X-2 Nascent Iodine. Dr. Sircus is the author of Healing With Iodine: Your Missing Link To Better Health and co-author of Iodine – Bringing Back the Universal Medicine. Dr. Sircus recommends LL’s Magnetic Clay Nascent Iodine.

Bath Flakes vs. Epsom Salts

Parents of autistic children often use Epsom Salts. However Daniel Reid, author of The Tao of Detox, warns that Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salts) is rapidly excreted through the kidneys and is therefore difficult to assimilate. So, the Magnesium Sulfate is wasted in the urine of autistic children. This explains in part why the effects from Epsom Salt baths do not last long and why more Magnesium Sulfate is needed in a bath than Magnesium Chloride to get similar results.

Ancient Mineral magnesium bath flakes are made from Magnesium Chloride which is easily assimilated and metabolized in the body. For purposes of cellular detoxification and tissue purification, the most effective form of magnesium is Magnesium Chloride which has a strong excretory effect on toxins and stagnant energies stuck in the tissues of the body, drawing them out through the pores of the skin. This is a powerful hydrotherapy that replenishes the “vital fluid” of the cells and restores cellular magnesium to optimum levels.

Magnesium Chloride is environmentally safe and is not irritating to the skin at lower concentrations. Magnesium Chloride solution Is not only harmless for tissues, but also has a great effect over leucocytic activity and phagocytosis. So, it is perfect for external wounds treatment.

Using Magnesium Bath Flakes and Oil

Dr. Mark Sircus says in his July 2018 article Transdermal Magnesium:

The first studies on transdermal magnesium absorption was published by the founder of the American Holistic Medical Association Dr. Norman Shealy in 2000. Shealy argued that a magnesium deficiency can be compensated by transdermal application within 4 to 6 weeks, whereas an oral supplementation is effective only after 4 to 12 months.

Dr. Sircus adds:

Ancient Minerals magnesium products are still my favorite, after a decade of use. I helped them to be the first company to import magnesium oil from the underground Zechstein Sea where the highest quality of Magnesium in the world is found.

Three to five to even ten sprays of magnesium chloride in a glass of pure water or juice is an excellent way to take magnesium internally. It assists digestion, counteracts excess acidity in the stomach, and delivers magnesium swiftly into the bloodstream for distribution to the cells of the body. Minerals like magnesium in ionic liquid form are superior to pill forms. Much more magnesium will get absorbed and absorption will not depend as much on hydrochloric acid levels.

Strong therapeutic foot soaks are another option and are especially important for diabetics who suffer from diabetic neuropathy. Soak the whole body or just the feet in bath water for 20-30 minutes at a temperature of about 108 degrees. The most effective protocol for this therapy is to begin with a daily body or foot bath every day for the first 7 days, (starting at lighter concentrations and building up) then continue with a maintenance program of 2-3 times a week for 6-8 weeks or longer.

One of the most luxurious medical treatments on earth is to receive magnesium massages on a consistent basis. Having at least an ounce of what is called magnesium oil rubbed all over one’s body by a massage therapist, or by a loved one, is simply heavenly. One can also do this oneself, meaning cover one’s body with the magnesium oil, like one would sunscreen, and go out in the sun and have some fun.

Magnesium: The Ultimate Heart Medicine

Magnesium – The Ultimate Heart Medicine, an ebook by Dr. Mark Sircus, is described as a paradigm breaker in the field of cardiology.

Dr. Sircus lists many of the benefits of transdermal magnesium, including:

“Maintaining heart beats and preventing heart attacks: Magnesium is absolutely essential for the proper functioning of the heart, is beneficial for many types of arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, ventricular premature contractions, ventricular tachycardia, and severe ventricular arrhythmias. Magnesium supplementation is also helpful in angina due to either a spasm of the coronary artery or atherosclerosis.

Controls blood pressure: Magnesium is a natural calcium antagonist and modulates vascular tone, blood pressure and peripheral blood flow. Thus, it helps maintain balanced blood pressure, preventing and fighting hypertension. improved blood circulation and oxygenation as well as providing for overall general relaxation.

Ally of diabetics: Reversing insulin resistance is the most basic first step to reversing diabetes and heart disease. Low serum and intracellular magnesium concentrations are associated with insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance, and decreased insulin secretion.

Improve pulmonary function: Nebulization of magnesium is a primary treatment for patients with pulmonary infections, for those undergoing bronchoscopy, for asthmatics and any other lung disease.

Important for bones: Magnesium acts on the regulation of calcium in and out, controlling the calcium metabolism to maintain blood homeostasis and the adequacy of bone matrix formation. It also participates in the activation of vitamin D, important for the absorption of calcium by the bones. important in the maintenance of healthy muscles, Helps with arthritis, increased mobility, Helps with frequent muscle cramping/spasms in the legs. Helps with pain.

Relieves symptoms of menopause: Magnesium deficiency is associated with menopause symptoms. This is because magnesium deficiency alters the activation of vitamin D associated with the interaction and modulation of hormones such as estrogen, which can alter and lead to menopause symptoms.”

Magnesium Is Anti-Inflammatory

The Alzheimer’s and Dementia Summit aired online in July and interviewed 31 brain specialists. It was followed by a 9-day Autoimmune Secrets series that included 50 doctors, scientists, researchers and autoimmune survivors.

Autoimmune Secrets explained that there are over 200 chronic illnesses characterized as autoimmune conditions including Alzheimer’s, dementia, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, MS, cancer, Crohn’s, Type 2 diabetes, etc. These labels are signs of the autoimmune system malfunctioning and manifesting various symptoms which get labeled as “diseases”.

The consensus in both shows was that inflammation is the root of all autoimmune conditions – and inflammation is caused primarily by nutrient deficiency and various kinds of toxins.

Dr. Sircus quotes Dr. David Perlmutter, author of The Grain Brain Whole Life Plan: Boost Brain Performance, Lose Weight, and Achieve Optimal Health and Brain Maker: The Power of Gut Microbes to Heal and Protect Your Brain for Life:

Once we understand the critical importance of inflammation and glutathione depletion in brain diseases, we can take steps to prevent or even reverse the damage.

Dr. Sircus explains in his ebook Magnesium – The Ultimate Heart Medicine:

Magnesium deficiency causes and underpins chronic inflammatory build ups. This concept is intriguing because it suggests a fundamentally simpler way of warding off disease. Instead of different treatments for heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and colon cancer, we apply a single, inflammation-reducing remedy that would prevent or treat these and other deadly diseases.

The key words here are ‘prevent’ or ‘treat’ but please notice the word is not cure. Though magnesium is a cure for many of our ailments, full treatment protocols are recommended with magnesium chloride as the top protocol item. It is a protocol of basic items like magnesium, iodine, Alpha Lipoic Acid, sodium bicarbonate, sodium thiosulfate, whole food vitamin C, natural vitamin D from the sun, spirulina and some other important items like purified water that will make a difference in a host of chronic diseases.”

22 Little-Known Dangers of Magnesium Deficiency

In the article Is there a correlation between magnesium deficiency and inflammation?, Dr. Brian Garrett points out:

There are many factors that trigger inflammation. They are found in both our internal and external environments and include excessive levels of the hormone insulin (insulin resistance), emotional stress, environmental toxins (heavy metals), free-radical damage, viral, bacterial, fungal other pathogenic infections, obesity, overconsumption of hydrogenated oils, periodontal disease, radiation exposure, smoking, spirochetes such as the Borrelia that causes Lyme disease, and certain pharmacological drugs….

Beyond all the common symptoms of inflammation we find the body tissues themselves may lose their ability to recognize cells that are “self ” from those that are not, and the body may mistakenly identify its own cells as foreign invaders. This internal programming error then continues to trigger and retrigger immune responses, setting the stage for autoimmune diseases, such as lupus, multiple sclerosis, and scleroderma. The result is cellular chaos, and what is even more disturbing is that this process may be happening year after year without our even being aware of it.

Dr. Garrett adds:

Magnesium is at the heart of the inflammatory process, it is the prime first cause when it is not present in sufficient quantities. Increases in extracellular magnesium concentration cause a decrease in the inflammatory response while reduction in the extracellular magnesium results in inflammation. Inflammation causes endothelial dysfunction and activated endothelium facilitates adhesion and migration of cancer cells…

Magnesium literally puts the chill on inflammation. Heart disease begins with inflammatory chemicals that rage like a fever through your blood vessels. Cool the heat by getting the recommended daily minimum of magnesium suggests Medical University of South Carolina researchers. They measured blood inflammation levels – using the C-reactive protein (CRP) test – in 3,800 men and women and found that those who got less than 50% of the RDA (310 to 420 mg) for magnesium were almost three times as likely to have dangerously high CRP levels as those who consumed enough. Being over age 40 and overweight and consuming less than 50% of the RDA more than doubled the risk of blood vessel-damaging inflammation.

While there are many factors that fuel inflammation and many supplements that can help alleviate it, Dr. Sircus and Dr. Garrett show that magnesium has a significant role to play in helping to prevent and reduce inflammation. Dr. Sircus explains that transdermal magnesium is the most effective way to use magnesium – through various use of the Ancient Minerals bath flakes, oil, and/or lotion.
