Nexus: Newly aquired images - Operation Highjump?

Update 10 Nov 2017: We would like to thank our wonderful Nexus Newsfeed users for their dilligence and assistance in investigating the following 'new' images.

At least 3 of the black and white images have been found to be very well photoshoped and fake.

We will leave this article on the Newsfeed to alert anyone else that finds these images elsewhere, that they are indeed a hoax.

...

Editor's Note: NEXUS Magazine has recently been provided a diverse collection of imagery that covers events, known and unknown over a period of 70 or so years.  The source was anonymous, and none of the pictures appear to have been in the public domain before now.  NEXUSNewsfeed.com plans to release more of these images over the next month or so.  Send feedback and enquiries to:  [email protected]

This first series is from what appears to be events that took place during Operation Highjump. There are a series of 5 images (black & white photographs).

But first, a short introduction for those who may not be familiar with these events.

...

Operation Highjump was the largest Antarctic expedition ever attempted by the US Navy.

The expedition was publicised in the American media as a mapping expedition, commanded by Admiral Byrd. The composition of this expedition said that whilst there may have been mapping carried out, there where perhaps other objectives planned.

The large complement of military resources included the aircraft escort carrier USS Philippine Sea (CV-47), two seaplane carriers (the Pine Island and Curritich), two destroyers (the Brownsen and Henderson), two escort ships (Yankee and Merrick), two fueling ships (Canister and Capacan) and the USS Sennet submarine. There were at least 4000 troops, helicopters and fixed wing DC-3 aircraft.[1]

Interestingly after some kind of altercation which resulted in the loss of at least 4 aircraft, Admiral Byrd was ordered home and Operation Highjump was cut dramatically short.

Perhaps to maintain the cover of a mapping expedition, there was a small contingent of press. Lee van Atta a reporter from the El Mercurio in Santiago stated that “Byrd announced to me today that it is necessary for the United States to put into effect defensive measures against enemy airmen which come from the polar regions. The Admiral further explained that he did not have the intention to scare anyone but the hitter reality is that in case of a new war the United States would be in a position to be attached by flyers which could fly with fantastic speed from one pole to the other.”[2]

This recently acquired series of images may add some clarity to this statement. They may also add fuel to theories of Nazis in Antarctica and the existence of advanced aircraft.

Clearly these images are peported to be from Task Force 68 (TF 68) and taken in February 1947, shortly before the return/retreat of the US Naval fleet.

Image received by Nexus Magazine (2/5). February 10th, 1947 showing the USS Philippine Sea, an unidentified ship in the distance and at least 2 unidentified arial vehicles receiving quite a lot of flack.

Image received by Nexus Magazine (3/5). February 11th, 1947 Task Force 68 with an unidentified arial vehicle and a the USS Sennet (SS-408) submarine, taken from the deck of an unidentified vessel.
Note: The USS Sennet has been reported to have arrived at Port Nicholson, Wellington, New Zealand on the 11 February 1947.

Image received by Nexus Magazine (4/5). February 13th, 1947, showing the USS Henderson (DD-785) and various smaller launches in what appears to be a land assault.

Image received by Nexus Magazine (5/5). February 18th, 1947 featuring an unidentified object, noted on the photo is TF 68 and Project Suchîmubôi

Interestingly the Project name Suchîmubôi, returned this as one of the results

Perhaps the start of another conspiracy theory?
