Magic and psi with Russell Targ

Russell Targ, a laser physicist, cofounded the remote viewing research program at SRI International. He is coauthor of Mind Reach, The Mind Race, Miracles of Mind, The Heart of the Mind, and The End of Suffering. He is author of Limitless Mind and The Reality of ESP: A Physicist's Proof of Psychic Abilities. He is also coeditor of the anthology, Mind At Large. He also co-produced the documentary Third Eye Spies.

Russell describes his background as an amateur stage magician starting as a child. He shares several insights that led to his successful career in parapsychology, particularly relating to Robert Rosenthal's "Pygmalion Effect" in psychology. He notes that as a remote viewing monitor, he developed the ability to distinguish between psi-mediated information and "naming." Quoting from Tibetan Buddhist texts, he suggests that "naming" is the enemy of psi. He points out that remote viewing can give one an appreciation of the enormous capacities of the mind. Buddhist texts show an understanding of this more than 1,200 years ago.
