Residents of communities across Central Texas were left wondering if they were witnessing some kind of alien invasion after several strange circular 'holes' appeared in clouds. According to a local media report, the weird incident occurred this past Thursday afternoon and an image of the odd phenomenon was showcased on social media by the City of New Braunfels, which likened the eerie aerial formations to UFOs. This was echoed by several residents, including one fourth grade teacher who revealed that her students "refused to believe" that the holes in the clouds were not alien in nature.

Fortunately for the youngsters, it would appear that Central Texas is save from invading ETs as meteorologists were quick to offer an explanation for the unusual sight. The 'UFOs' are actually a weather phenomenon known as fallstreak holes. These circular chasms are created when water droplets in the clouds suddenly become supercooled and then either evaporate or turn into precipitation. Also known as 'punch hole clouds,' the saucer-like formations can also be triggered by air traffic passing through the area, which is what many suspect to have been the case in this instance.
