Three researchers from the Tasmanian Tiger Archives Facebook group, working closely with the staff from the National Film and Sound Archive Australia have discovered previously unknown footage of the Tasmanian Tiger at Beaumaris zoo.

Branden Holmes, Mike Williams and Gareth Linnard have recently discovered more movie footage of a Tasmanian Tiger that has been hidden from the world.

The footage is 16mm and is 21 seconds long, filmed at Beaumaris zoo in Hobart. The narrator is unknown.

The Team believe the footage was completed after March 1935 and filmed by Sidney Cook. This date was based on footage of a ship on the same reel called the Tacoma Star, which didn't enter Hobart till March 1935. It was the key to finding the time period the film was made.

The title of the film was “Tasmania the Wonderland” which was also used for other films. It is the only known footage with the original sound track on it, which features a commentary on the animal. At the 18 second mark a threat yawn can be seen directed at Arthur Reid, the curator of Beaumaris zoo and Albert Brett. The film is the last dated film footage ever taken of the Tasmanian tiger that has been found so far! The same group of researchers also discovered the previous footage that was released.

There are now 7 films from Beaumaris zoo. And 2 films from London zoo.
