There is now ample scientific evidence that a massive global cataclysm damaged our planet about 11,700 years ago. It could have from comet fragments, an energetic pulse from galactic center, and/or plasma ejection from the sun. I personally believe it was all of the above. And this would explain what happened to the great ancient megalithic builders.

Damage to the large sculpture above, weighing 720 tons (without the base) is far more apparent on the front than the sides or back. Solar plasma striking from the east, which is the front side, could have flash scorched and blown off the stone. The sculpture in fact faces 20 degrees off due east, and thus the planet may originally have been perfectly vertical before the cataclysm.

Other sculptures in the proposed path of the plasma have had major pieces blown off of them and still others are being found underground in the area. The plasma theory is championed by geologist in his book Forgotten Civilization. Also, an energetic pulse from galactic center could have caused the plasma ejection phenomenon.

The above photo was taken at Karnak, where several stone works shown signs of being flash heated, causing the core to expand. This theory is supported by our resident geologist, though much more research has to be done. The crystals inside are much larger that those of the outside, as the next photo will show.

This is not the natural state of the material, as the surface of the piece, and others in the area have large surface cracks that appear to have been caused by sudden expansion, as would happen if it was struck by a flash of intense heat. Also, the path of destruction here, like at the sculpture site of Thebes was 20 degrees off of due east. This of course is in my book on the subject of the global cataclysm:
