Continuing expedition of the pyramid complex of Güimar, Canary Islands
The adventure "Canary Islands" goes into the next round (part 4)
Last year, 2022, Ramon Zürcher and I traveled to the Canary Islands with a first TV team. I have already reported on our sensational tooth discovery and the start of work on a 3D scan of the pyramid complex of Güimar. This week Ramon and I returned to the Canary Islands to finish our work on these issues.
Ramon is currently in Gran Canaria, where he is dealing with the indigenous people there. The inhabitants called themselves “Canarios” and lived in two dominions. In addition to many interesting finds, the "painted cave" (Cueva pintadas) stands out on Gran Canaria, which underlines the high cultural status of the Canarios. But also many Tara figures and stamp seals (pintanderas) prove a strong family relationship to the peoples of the western Mediterranean area, such as on the Balearic Islands or Sardinia!
On the other hand, I am currently in Tenerife preparing our next work with the Austrian film team “Imagoscope Film” and at the Pyramid Park of Güimar. That is why I met our research colleague Gustavo Sanzes Romero, who is organizing several extremely interesting excursions with us to previously unknown ship imaging stations on Tenerife. There we will hopefully be shown sensational images of Phoenician, but also appearing Egyptian sea going vessels. But native depictions of reed boats - even with rigging - will also document that the ancient Canary Islands were not as isolated as many archaeologists still believe. The so-called "Guanas" were in contact with their neighbors, at least with their neighbors in Morocco.
Another meeting with Jacqueline Beer (Thor Heyerdahl's widow) is planned for today in order to get free access again for the completion of the 3D scans in Güimar. Jacqueline is also supporting the preparations for ABORA V by introducing me to many other historians and archaeologists on the island. Meetings are planned for next week.
