Chalcatzingo | The Olmec Earth monster returns home | Megalithomania
Chalcatzingo is a remote Olmec site dating to 1500 BC in Morelos, Mexico. It has numerous pyramids, a ball court and ancient, sophisticated relief carvings suggesting it was used as a shamanic site. It was later adopted by the Teotihuacan culture who built the pyramids. Also known as the 'Earth Monster', the famous 'portal to the underworld' (Monument 9) statue was looted in the 1960s and after years of being in private collections and museums in the US it has now finally made its way home to Chalcatzingo after 60 years. Includes 3D scans and aerial footage.
