Massive bat-winged humanoid circles above boat near Montrose Beach, Chicago

In April 2017, multiple witnesses around Chicago reported seeing strange winged figures and unexplained aerial phenomena. One account came from a group celebrating on Lake Michigan, while another emerged just days later from a worker at O’Hare International Airport. Together, these reports highlight not only eerie similarities but also raise questions about whether Chicago was experiencing an active wave of sightings at the time, echoing the city’s long history with winged humanoid encounters.

Chicago, IL - April 15, 2017: "I was out on the lake with my husband and two other couples, celebrating a friend's birthday. We were about two miles from shore, off Montrose, around 10 PM. We were enjoying ourselves when I happened to look up and saw what looked like a giant bat, not a fox bat, which I had learned is the largest bat. This bat was as tall as my husband, who is 6'4", or perhaps even bigger. It was solid black, with eyes that seemed to reflect the moonlight. It appeared darker than the surrounding night sky and was perfectly silhouetted against the moonlit backdrop.

The bat circled our boat three times in complete silence before flying off toward Montrose. It quickly blended into the night sky and disappeared within seconds.

About five minutes after spotting the bat, we noticed a bright green object traveling from north to south along the horizon. It was not an airplane; it was a brilliant green object that moved slowly across the sky. If I had to estimate, it was about two miles away from us.

After the object was out of sight, we sat in stunned silence. I began to feel an overwhelming sense of dread and told my husband that we should get off the water as quickly as possible. I tried to take a picture of the bat as it circled our boat, but all I got was a black screen." - MUFON

Chicago, IL - April 17, 2017: "I was working my shift at O'Hare Airport when I decided to record a plane that had my name on it. While filming, I noticed something flying above the helicopter, hovering in an unusual manner. I zoomed in on the flying object, which looked like an orb. Its flight pattern was abnormal for anything typically seen near the airport. I have worked there for three years and have taken many videos and pictures of planes and the sky, but I had never seen anything like this.

I would have continued recording, but I had to assist a passenger and had to stop. I was filming through a transparent window, so it was not a shadow or reflection. The way the object was flying looked completely independent, and when I asked several pilots for their opinions, they described it as "unexplained." When I returned to record more footage, the object was gone." - MUFON

Commentary:

Both accounts fall within a concentrated timeframe, April 2017, suggesting heightened anomalous aerial activity in the Chicago region. The first report describes a winged humanoid entity resembling the “Chicago Mothman,” with details consistent with other cases: large wingspan, solid black body, glowing or reflective eyes, silent flight, and a powerful aura of dread. Notably, the sighting occurred over open water, a typical pattern in humanoid winged encounters, as if these beings use waterways as transit or emergence zones.

The second sighting, just two days later, near O’Hare Airport, introduces an aerial orb-like anomaly. While not directly humanoid in form, orbs are frequently reported alongside winged humanoid sightings, sometimes interpreted as ultraterrestrial craft, dimensional probes, or energy manifestations. The proximity of O’Hare (a hub of numerous winged humanoid reports) further strengthens the case for correlation.

The emotional tones are consistent: awe, fear, and dread, followed by a sense of vulnerability. These reactions suggest the presence of an energy signature beyond mere physical sighting, possibly interdimensional or ultraterrestrial in nature. Lon
