Doggie birthday cake

This dog birthday cake is super fun to make. I made this for my dog, and she ate it all up. The honey is optional, but it makes the cake a sweeter treat for the dog. And yes, I tried some — it's pretty good.

Yield:

1 (6-cup) ring mold

Ingredients

  • 1 egg

  • ⅓ cup honey (Optional)

  • ¼ cup peanut butter

  • ¼ cup cooking oil

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup shredded carrots

  • 1 cup whole wheat or white flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 6-cup ring mold or fluted tube pan.

  2. Combine egg, honey, peanut butter, oil, and vanilla in a large bowl; blend well. Stir in carrots until well-combined. Sift together flour and baking soda and fold into carrot mixture. Spoon cake batter into the prepared pan.

  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 40 minutes. Let cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

This recipe is great! It was my youngest dog’s first birthday. Made while we were at camp, didn’t have peanut butter so used pumpkin instead. Baked for 30 minutes. Decorated with Cookie Pal treats. Needless to say my dogs went nuts over them

Second year making these “pup-cakes”. We combine 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt with 1/4 cup peanut butter for frosting. No complaints from the pups, they gobble them down every time. We make them in mini-muffin sizes as are dogs are small. Adjusted the bake time to 20 minutes for the smaller size.

My dog loved this cake!! We substituted the frosting for Greek yogurt and peanut butter and she loved that. I would suggest checking the cake before 40 minutes, it was pretty crispy at 40 for us but still turned out great!
